Books for Philippine public schools

A dozen of balikbayan boxes packed with math, science, and literature books were collected and sent to different public schools in the Philippines. Donated by Nimitz Elementary School, a public school in Honolulu, the books were distributed in different barangay schools in Laoag City and Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte in coordination with the Department of Education. The boxes of grade school books were delivered in two separate shipments -- one in late 2022 and another in early 2023. The first shipment was channeled through APO Sis Vilma Eda, then the Laoag City District Superintendent.

The Grades 1-6 math and science are mostly new, with most of the math workbooks still in their plastic wrappings. The literature books included both fiction (biographies) and npn-fiction selections.

The donations were made possible through DOE teacher Mrs. Lynne Gutierrez and the school principal, Mr. Corey Allen.
